10. I am grateful in advance for the things I know that God has in store for that I haven’t even seen yet.
For whatever reason, I had a little bit of writer’s block. I was sitting with my friend/co-owner Shayla, trying to put into words what topic I wanted to discuss, but couldn’t figure it out. As we were brainstorming I began to think about January being the season of goals, reflection, and change. I immediately started to reflect o a goal that I didn’t get accomplished last year. I have made many strides to accomplish this goal but realized that it just wasn’t God’s timing. I instantly put pressure on myself and started feeling bad for not reaching this goal.
As soon as I started to talk about how upset I was about it, Shayla asked me “What are some things that you are grateful for?” In that moment I was in awe because I realized how much I reflect on the things that aren’t going right and the things that are not going according to plan. I sometimes forget about how much I need to value and appreciate the things that I have accomplished. This led me to creating a gratitude list. This was different for me because it wasn’t about setting expectations or reflecting on “failures”. It was simply a way to reflect on the positives.
A “Gratitude List” is a great way to get your New Decade started, especially if “resolutions” aren’t your thing. Here’s some questions to help you get started: What are you grateful for? How far have you come on your journey? What did you accomplish in 2019? What are some things you need to work on for 2020?
